The final instructions are in the competition centre on the competition day.

The rules of the Finnish Orienteering Federation (FOF) apply together with these instructions given by the organizer.

 

Signposting: Driving instructions will be signposted from the cross of roads Hyönöläntie (road 127) and Somerontie (road 280). The distance from there to the competition centre is approximately 1 km. Signposts from 7 am on Saturday 27th May. Address for navigation: Somerontie 1248, Lohja. It is allowed to come to the competition centre only following the signposted route.

 

Map: Map maker Arvo Paulin, offset-printed 5/2017, 6-coloured, A3 and A4 sizes. H/D10RR and H/D12TR have printed maps in A5 size. Maps are in plastic covers.

Competitors will see the competition map in the start two minutes before their start time. The old map of the area can be seen in the competition centre.

Maps can be bought from info on Sunday. The exact time will be announced later.

 

Terrain: The terrain with relatively big height differences consists of different type of areas. In parts of the terrain, there are detailed bare rock hills covered with lichen. In other parts, there are heath containing areas with some deep depressions. There are also areas used for forestry, with loggings and forests of different ages.

Refreshment points:
On Sunday, there are four refreshment points in the terrain and they are marked on the competition map. Water is served on the refreshment points.

 

Last control: At the last control, any punching unit can be used. There is a marked route from the last control to the finish. World Cup competitors have a separate finish.

 

Starts:

Saturday:

Start 1: 
There is approximately 1200 m from the competition centre to start 1. The route is marked with blue-red-yellow ribbons and goes on asphalt and gravel roads. Marked route to the start begins at info pole. Marked route must be followed and it is not allowed to use any other route. All the starts have a common pre-start. From the pre-start, there are marked routes to the start.

In pre-start, competitor takes his bib and separate control descriptions. Competitors are called to the start area four minutes before his start time and his bib number will be checked. Three minutes before the start time, competitor will reset his Emit card. Competitor is responsible for resetting his Emit card successfully. Two minutes before the start time, competitors are allowed to see the competition map. One minute before the start time, competitor goes next to his own map. At start time, competitor may take his map. The route from the maps to K point is marked and that route must be followed to the K point. The start will be closed 15 minutes after the last start time.


Start 2:

In the start, five minutes before the start time, competitor will be called by name. Competitors will then see the competition maps with routes for RR- and TR-classes and K point used by other classes. There is an organizers who advices and helps the competitors with the model maps if needed.

Four minutes before the start time, the Emit card will be resetted.
Three minutes before the start time, the start time and Emit card number will be checked.
Two minutes before the start time, competitors in RR-classes get the competition map and they are given advices. Also competitors in TR-classes get their competition maps. Other classes may see the competition map where the K point is marked.
One minute before the start time, competitors in classes H/D12-14 may take their competition maps and look at it. Competitors in RR- and TR-classes may keep on looking at their competition maps.
K point is at the start. The start is closed 15 minutes after the last start time.

Special instructions for classes H/D 12-14: Control descriptions are on the result board both as symbols and in written form.

Special instructions for RR- and TR-classes: Map is a print map and its scale is 1:10 000. Last control is the same for all competitors. There are several punching units, one having the code RR and others a number code. Any of the punching units can be used. There is a marked route from the last control to the finish, and it must be followed. Competitor must punch on the finish line. For every missing punch, 10 minutes will be added in the result of competitors in RR-classes. For competitors in TR-classes, a missing punch will cause a disqualification.

Sunday:

In classes H/D17-20E and H/D16E, all competitors must arrive to start threshold between 10.30 and 12.15. At the start threshold, the bibs will be checked. The distance from the competition centre to the start threshold is approximately 800 m. Competitors are not allowed to go back to the competition centre after passing the start threshold. Only competitors who have passed the start threshold in time, are allowed to participate the competition. Competitors that come too late or don’t come to the start threshold at all, will be disqualified. At the start threshold it is prohibited to use computers, tablets or mobile phones. The use of such devices will lead to disqualification. It is possible to warm up only in the area marked by organizers. It is not allowed to leave the start threshold area. Leaving the start threshold area will cause a disqualification.

In the start threshold area, there are indoor facilities and a toilet. Equipment transportation to the competition centre near the info desk leaves every 45 minutes. Take your own bag for equipment transportation with you and mark it properly.

There is an approximately 1300 m long marked route from the start threshold area to the start. The marked route must be followed. Control descriptions are both availabe separately in the start and printed on the map. The participants in these classes are selected according to FOF’s instructions.

Start threshold area controllers may decide about disqualifications at the start threshold area. Disqualified competitor leaves his bib to a controller and goes back to the competition centre.

Only competitors are allowed to enter the start threshold area.

There are two toilets on the route to the start on both days.

 

Race bibs: Bibs are used in all the competition classes. Bibs are available at the pre-start. Bring your own safety pins. Bibs are collected on Saturday after the race from those competitors who participate only on Saturday. From other competitors, bibs are collected away after finishing the race on Sunday. Competitor is responsible for taking the right bib.

 

Emit card backup slips and control descriptions

Emit card backup slips and separate control descriptions are available at the start. Organizers in starts 1 and 2 will not check the Emit card numbers before start.

 

Emit cards:

NB! According to the rules of FOF, the competitor will be disqualified if he has used any other electronic punching card than the one he has announced beforehand.

Check your Emit card number on the start lists. Any invalid information must be corrected before the race both to IRMA entry service and by email to timo.kokko@kokkens.fi at latest on Thursday 25th May at 8 pm. After that the corrections can be made at competition info before the competition. Emit numbers are not checked at the start and competitors running with a wrong Emit card will be disqualified according to the rules of FOF. An Emit card can be used only once per day.

An Emit card with a display may show a different code than the control codes visible at the control and in the control descriptions.

Hired Emit cards can be picked up at the info desk and they should be returned there. Not returned hired cards will be charged at 70 € each.

 

Out-of-bounds:

All settlement areas (olive green), cultivated land (black dots on yellow) and areas marked on map with purple out-of-bounds marks are forbidden to enter. In the competition centre, areas marked as forbidden should not be entered. A competitor is allowed to go to the competition area only during his own competition. In other cases, the competitor will be disqualified.

 

Finish:

There are online punching units at the finish line. A competitor that have not punched at the finish line will be disqualified. The finish will be closed at 4 pm.

Maps are not collected away in the finish. According to the rules, competitors are not allowed to show their maps to other competitors or team officials before the last start time. It is also prohibited to show the route on an old map. Remember fair play!

 

Drop-outs:

Competitors that don’t finish the whole race must either come to finish as usually or otherwise take care of being registered at the finish.

 

Model control:

Model control is in the competition centre next to info pole. Check that your Emit card in functioning. In other case, you can hire an Emit card at the info desk (5 €).

 

Toilet:

There are toilets in the competition centre and two toilets on the way to the starts.

 

Dressing and showers:

Showers are available outdoors in the competition centre. It is not allowed to use soap.

 

First aid:

First aid is at the competition centre and in the terrain.

 

Club tents:

There is an area in the competition centre reserved for club tents.

 

Competition centre:

Competition centre is on a field. It is not allowed stay overnight in the competition centre.

 

Parking:

Parking area is at the competition centre or nearby it. Big vehicles have a separate parking area. Parking fee for two days is 5 € and for one day 3 €. Parking fee should be paid at the info desk. Cash only, pay with the exact sum, please!

In case of rain, the reserve parking area further away from the competition centre will be used. The eventual decision to use the reserve parking area will be done on Thursday 25th May 2017. The decision and any changes concerning parking will be announced on this website. 

Parking instructions given by organizers must be obeyed. Competitors should arrive to the parking area according to the signposts. 

 

Warning:

The route to the starts on Saturday goes along a public road Koskelantie north of the competition centre. The same road is used by big vehicles driving to their parking area. The road has a speed limit of 30 km/h. Be careful with the traffic when using the road.

On Sunday, competitors in E-classes cross the Koivusalontie road north of the competition centre twice. Traffic will be controlled at road crossings.

 

Day Care/Muksula: There is a day care service at the competition centre for those who have made an entry beforehand. Day care is aimed for children over two years.

 

String Orienteering/Siilisuunnistus: For the youngest kids, there will be a non-competitive string orienteering course, Siilisuunnistus, provided at the competition centre both on Saturday and Sunday starting at 10.30 am. Siilisuunnistus is free of charge. Entries at the competition centre next to the Day care.

 

Prize giving ceremony

In classes H/D 10RR all the participants will get a prize at the prize giving area after they have finished. For other classes, the number of prizes will be announced on results board in the competition centre and the prizes can be picked up at the prize giving area after the results of that class are ready.

 

Results

Results can be seen on results board in the competition centre and at www.hiidenkiertajat.fi. Also all the split times will be published on Hiidenkiertäjät’s website.

 

Open Courses: There are open orienteering courses both on Saturday and on Sunday. Courses on Saturday: A (difficult, 5,6 km), B (intermediate 4,2 km) and C (easy 2,6 km). Courses on Sunday: A 1(difficult, 5,5 km), A2 (difficult 4 km), B (easy 4 km) and C (easy 2,5 km). Control descriptions are on the map. 

Entries, hiring Emit cards and payment (10 €, pay with the exact sum, please!)  at the info desk in the competition centre. Not returned hired cards will be charged at 70 € each.

The start is open between 12 pm and 2 pm. On Saturday, there is 1,4 km to the start. The route is marked with white-green ribbons. On Sunday, there is 0,5 km to the start. The route is marked with white-green ribbons. The starts for the open courses are in the same direction as starts 1, 2 and 3 on both days.

The start and the finish for the open courses are close to each other. The finish will be closed at 4 pm on both days.

Participants participate open courses at own risk. Results and split times will be published at www.hiidenkiertajat.fi.

 

Food and Drink: There is a canteen at the competition centre on both days. The canteen provides cafeteria products and lunch. The canteen opens at 7.30 am. More information at https://www.hiidenkiertajat.fi/kilpailut/prisma-rastit-2017/prisma-rastit-lintukiima/kisaravintola/

In the competition centre, there are shops selling orienteering equipment.
